Understanding Medicare’s 4 Primary Parts

Do you know the difference between Medicare parts A, B, C, and D? Each part has its own different versions of insurance, backed by either the federal government or private insurance agencies. Depending on your need for hospital, prescription, dental, vision, or hearing coverage, you could save money by avoiding unnecessary costs.

Enrollment Periods and Eligibility

There are specific times you can enroll in Medicare, your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP). From the three months prior to the three months after your 65th birthday, you’re eligible for Original Medicare, assuming you haven’t already been enrolled automatically.

Those receiving Social Security income benefits will already have access to Part A, and won’t need to activate Part B unless retired.

Throughout the Annual Election Period (AEP), if you already have Original Medicare, you’re eligible to change, drop, or enroll in a Part D or Medicare Advantage plan.
